Lake Aschersleben
Lake Aschersleben is a former lake in northeast of the Harz
The Harz is a mountain range in northern Germany.
It is located on the border between the states of Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, hence being the northernmost mountain chain of Germany. The name "Harz" is derived from a Middle High German word meaning "forest".
The lake was connected to the rivers of Eine and Elke and was about 12 km long. When the lake begun to shrink in the course of the 15th century, a dam was built at the source of the Elke.
